Exclamation XP won't read CD data!!

Hi there!
Forgive if this is covered in another thread, but I could not find one. I have an ECS K7S5A Pro board with a 2400+ processor, 512 MB DDR 2700 and 2 80GB HD's on my primary IDE and on my secondary IDE I had a 52 speed CD-RW drive. I have updated and downgraded the BIOS and tried different cabels, but I can not read any information on discs. XP recognizes the disc and even says how much the size is, it will even burn perfectly, however it will not read data on the disc. It shows a blank screen and the side shows amount used and zero free space, but can't read it. I changed the drive to a Pioneer 110 DVD burner however same issue. Can burn, play in another DVD player, but no read. I can read my USB Emprex DVD External drive, but not the internal. Two drives, checked jumpers, stand alone and with slaves and masters, but no luck reading. I have updated the firmware but two drives is a good indication this is not a drive issue. Please help!!

Have you tried those drives in another computer yet?

Are the disks you're trying to read burned disks or factory originals of music/software, etc? If these two CD drives will not read any disks, how were you able to load XP? Is this an issue with auto run that the disks will not run or will they not open when you use Explore also?

Talking Update`

OK, I broke down and attached the Burner to the Primary IDE and it works great! Sad problem though, it is on the same line as my root drive and that as we all know causes slowing. I have two other hard drives on the secondary and they are working great.

Red,
I loaded XP with the CD-RW drive without a hitch. It is so strange. If an application wants to view the data, say like Nero after it burns, then it can and successfully. I was able to view the files on the CD I burned right after. When I put Batman Begins in it shows a title of "Batman Begins a`a`a`a`a`"
or if I put a retail copy of XP in it gets those a`a`a`a`a` added to the title in My Computer. My Daughter's backstreet Boys CD, plays great. SO you see my nightmare. It is so weird. It is obviously the Secondary IDE but what settings can I change. Right now it is Ultra DMA Mode 5, just as it was on the other IDE. I am lost. Please help!

To finish the question that you asked, it will autorun to a blank screen or even weirder, the Batman dvd, brings up the audio and video folders and autorun file, but the folders are empty. Autorun works, and disabling it has not helped either. Thank You

Beyond me. I'd say either bad secondary ide on the mobo or virus/spyware infection causing XP corruption.

Have you tried a different ribbon cable on the secondary?

CRASH Truth must be accepted

Well Red and GLC I must accept that this IDE channel is corrupt somehow on a hardware level. After this post I am dismantling the board and awaiting my new 3000+ Sempron and Board. It's OK, no need to comfort me, when you date girls like ECS you can never be sure if they are going to be around to see you become what you dream, or that they will even help you. This old girl had her day. I sold the 2400+ on EBAY to help pay for the 3000+ and threw the board in for free as she will break your heart. I bought the combo for $41 and sold them for $123 last night. I am not sure how the bidding shot to that high for my used parts that only brought a guarantee for the processor, I was honest, but I am not one to be the party pooper.

Thanks for your help guys.

By the way to answer your question glc, I had tried a few cables. She just doesn;t carry it for me anymore.
