No Wake on Mouse
Hi again guys,
I recently changed my PS/2 mouse which worked fine with a serial mouse (the PS/2 mouse didn't have very good tracking on the screen and only had 2 buttons unlike this mouse on COM2 which has 3. When my PC goes into suspend mode though (3 beeps/hard drive power down/CPU fan down etc) I cannot use my mouse to wake up the machine. This wouldn't be so bad but the mouse doesn't work after this unless I restart the machine. (The machine still works with keyboard shortcuts as if you had no mouse - it hasn't crashed) I would appreciate any ideas to fix this problem Jim

You need to go into the power management in the bios and make sure the IRQ that the serial port that the mouse is using is enabled as a wakeup event.

I have gone into the BIOS and POWER MANAGEMENT. The COM ports are set as Wake-up events and they are in white (they cannot be disabled as wake events)
There is also a heading called Modem Use IRQ : I think this is either set to 3 or 4. Should this need to be changed (there is not much else in power management and nothing I can see about making individual IRQs wake-up events) It is an Award BIOS - ALI Aladdin V chipset - Gigabyte GA-5AX board Jim |

Modem use IRQ should be set to N/A unless you use the modem as a fax machine or answering machine or dialup server.
I personally use no power management at all - and just turn off the monitor when I'm not around or asleep. I see no advantage whatsoever in letting a computer put itself to sleep and power management can be (and usually is) a big headache. |

Thanks for your help, I couldn't get it to work in the end but I had the drivers for a logitech mouse installed already and if I go to control panel and click on mouse my mouse wakes up again
Removing the old logitech mouse drivers would probably fix the problem? But I can't be bothered at the moment. Yes, it is one BIG headache! Jim |
