B-17 Pc

I play Battlefield 1942, and I love the sound of the B-17 engine. Would it be possible to find fans that will make a similar noise?

Instead of annoying me, the sound of rushing air helps me relax and want to sleep.

Highly doubt its possible with a case fan, though i have some A/C fans that make pretty cool sounds while there spinning up.

Yeah... I am guessing I would need some large @$$ fans.

A bunch of small fans would sound more like a jet wouldn't it?

Could try RC airplane props and connect them to an electric motor or fan.

Interesting idea indeed. I could try a local hobby shop for those. I should look on-line to see if there are some propellers that make a deep humming sound. Also, the B-17's have tri-blade propellers which may contribute the to sound.

Now that I think of it, the only real difference is the shape of the fan blade.

This is what you are going to need to reproduce the sound: http://flickr.com/photos/brraveheart.../in/set-60535/ ...LOL Yes, nothing else sounds like it and I don't think the neighbors would appreciate it.

The sound is more a factor of the size of the prop and that the B-17 was a radial engine. Radial engines have a very distinct sound which is the sound that you are probably looking for. I would look for a .wav file of the sound of the engine and propeller.

Your not going to reproduce that beautiful sound with computer fans. By the way, I love the sound of the old warbirds at airshows. There is nothing that sounds better than a low altitude pass by an old 4 radial engine bomber.
