I'm not an expert on laptop architechture, but I don't think a standard CPU will work in a laptop. There are adapters to go the other way around (a laptop CPU in a desktop), but none for the other way around. They consume too much power and way too much even if you could get it to fit in.

yes they are the same size
but your motherboard probably wouldnt support that kind of an upgrade i switched my 2.66 p4 with a 3.0 p4 from my friends pc into my dell laptop but i doubt that going from 1.6 celeron to a 3.4 p4 would work it might work but it would run down to the speeds of the motherboard you would have to check with dell and see if that motherboard would support it or if anyone else in the forum knows but i kinda doubt it would work Last edited by yeoamuca; 11-14-2005 at 03:50 PM. |

If it's a Celeron-M, you cannot replace it with a desktop processor. You do not want a desktop processor in any of the new laptops - battery life would be abysmal and the heat would be stifling. If you want a high performance laptop, buy it with a Pentium-M or a Turion to begin with. Laptop motherboards are designed for a specific range of processors.

Yeah that's what I was saying...they usually have an extra pin or whatever. And a 3.4GHz CPU would use so much power you'd have very very little battery life and you'd burn your lap if you could get the CPU to run that long.
