SpeedFan question
Hey
I just downloaded speedfan and this is what it shows me: Fan1: 4100rpm Temp1: -48C Fan2: 2100rpm Temp2: 70C Fan3: 0rpm Temp3: 33C HD0: 44C HD2: 40C What do you think. Are these good temps? There's a flame by temp2 that's why i'm worried. I have 3 fans inside my case, one on the heat sink, one on graphics card, and one on the ps. Which fan and temp corresponsd to which? thanks |

I'm not sure which would be which, but the -48c is definitely wrong.

Double check the BIOS temps to see if they are close to the reading in Speedfan. If that 70C is correct, you have some problems with the CPU temp.

Check that your CPU heatsink is latched down securely.

You really need a case fan in there to exhaust hot air. The PSU fan may not be enough to exhaust hot air, and the hot air is building up causing the CPU temp to rise.

Thanks again
Here are my temps after turning on the comp of the standby mode: Temp1: -48C Temp2: 63C Temp3: 30C HD0: 30C H2: 27C They are lower, but what should the ideal temps be? My specs: http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/specs/desktops/pcvrx650.pdf#search='sony%20vaio%20pcvrx650%20motherboard' My heatsink is very dusty, you can hardly see it , maybe this is the cause...I was going to clean it up but first I don't know what thermal compound to reaply and second I was going to postpone it because I need my comp to school now, and I'm afraid I would do something wrong, anyways again which fan corresponds to which and same with temp. |

Get a can of canned air to bloww the dust out of the heatsink. That should drop your CPU temps a few degrees.

Yep...clean that sucker out. I've read of cases where a clogged heatsink can cause temps to rise 10C or more.
That link you supplied doesn't work. Sounds like an Intel P4 CPU, those run hot to begin with. If that's a Prescott temps should be at 65C max (during load)...a Northwood is around 55C max. Do you game with this computer? Have you ever noticed the computer slow down under a load? Above 70C P4's will start clocking down (slow down) to lessen heat. Lowering the temps might actually result in a faster computer

This is very true
I have been stupidly running my P4 3 GHz PC (Gaming) with just a case fan, but now I am getting back and front coolant fans also, which will allow my system to go all out 100% of the time because it will not overheat

Thanks a lot guys, I'm going to clean that heat sink and let you know if it drops temps.
