Well I just visited the Hi-Val website and they do not list the drive you asked about. What this means is that it is probably a re-badged TEAC,Ricoh, or JVC (Since they list these brands under their firmware upgrade list).
I say buy a Plextor (12x10x32 @$142.00), they have the best units (w/Burn-Proof), support, and thier drives are compatable with all of the programs that can use CD-R / RW such as Ghost.
TRUST ME, YOU'LL NEVER KNOW HOW GREAT PLEXTOR IS, UNTIL YOU OWN ANOTHER BRAND.

I don't know who makes Hi-Val's CDRWs, but their CDROMs and DVDROMs are incredibly crappy. Agreed, go with Plextor. You can get a 12/10/32A from Newegg for about 150 bucks now.
