CD RW compatibility problem

Is it normal for older CD-RWs, formatted in older CD burners, to not be compatible in newer DVD / CD burners? If I use my RWs in my old TDK burner, everything works just fine. I can read / write and do my special little backup jobs. When I forget to put the disc in the TDK and use a different burner, my data is Not seen, but a totally different set of files are present.

For instance, I just stuck on in my DVD burner and ZoneAlarm warned me that the disc was trying to access Firefox!?! I opened Windows Explorer and discovered there was an Autorun file and an OpenHTML.exe file there, as well as as a directory with a bunch of files that aren't mine.

I put the disc back into the CD burner, and the corrent files showed up and no trace of those other times. However, somehow the batch file I use on the RW to run my backup is now mysteriously corrupt!? Roxio's ScanDisk Recovery is running right now, attempting to fix whatever happened.

Any help or ideas are welcome!

I think that the roxio formatted cd-rw need incd install on the system to read correctly.
I still have it running on my system and have not had any problems with the older cd's yet, and I got a bunch of them..

I don't think you can run Roxio and InCD at the same time, though... I played around somemore yesterday and my old ones are still OK in the older drive. I tried formatting an unused, but previously formatted RW in the DVD burner and it just about destroyed the disc!?! It came up as 600MB of unusable area. Roxio's utilities could Not either fix, erase, or reformat the disk, even in the old burner. I had to fire up Nero and use their "full" erase utility just to make it re-formatable in the old burner. Nero found that a Mount Rainier session was on the disk and used up all the space, but it was a bad session...??
