CD-ROM error reading

I loaded a program and when I finished and removed the disc I get blue screen
with error reading CD-Rom in disc @":
Please insert cd-rom with serial no xxx
if cd still in drive may need cleaning
I wiped the disc wit a clean cloth but no help.
I tried going to control panel and right click the drive and eject the disc came out with same result.

emachine windows me sony rw the disc is nero 6 install disc.

CD-rom may have died. Also, check the cables to the cd-rom, something may be loose or a damaged cable.

Thanks for the suggestions. After trying things and found that the drive was working I reset windows back 3 weeks and uninstalled roxio (all that it removed)
and was able to get the disc out.
Working normal.
