I know my BIOS is old, b/c it's version that im using was made in 2000 lol and plus SANDRA is telling me it's old. So guys, since this comp has become a huge bottleneck, sort of annoying, plus my curiosity to learn new things, i wanna learn how to flash the bios.
Specs: Asus Tek VT863/5 PhoenixBios 4.0 Release 6.0.F Pnp Version: 1.00 I went to asus, the manufacture, but there are no guides or anything...in fact I'm more confused then ever. Can someone enlighten me how to find if there is a newer version of my BIOS compatible to this ROM. I know the dangerous of flashing a BIOS, and how i can lose my whole system, this is just for pure science, i wanna experiement and i would appreciate it if you guys guided me, and gave me tips (if ya know any). thanks kosova~ |

The mods will eventually move this to appropriate thread. However, since we're here, if everything on your PC is doing okay I'd leave well enough alone. I don't have the specs, etc. in front of me for your mobo but if it's a genuine Intel board the upgrade (if any) is a breeze. Any other type and cross your fingers the power don't take a lunch break, etc., and you lose whatcha already got and can't go back. My own limited knowledge is - if all is working okay, leave it alone. There are ways however to back up current BIOS in case Hades comes calling, but from what I hear, and I'm repeating myself, if it works, don't fix it.

i also agree with Sarge. why you you update your bios if theres no problems with the pc. thought if you want to know how; first put the update on a floppy, re-boot the pc and push (alt+F2) that will check the floppy.

If this is a pre-built name brand computer, go to the computer manufacturer's web site for the BIOS update. There should be instructions on how to flash the BIOS on the same page you find the correct BIOS update.
