Hard to tell AMD and Intel makes very good CPUs. if you buy a mobo that supports AMD youll need an AMD cpu. I prefer AMD for gaming, but it all depends the people. i dont quite understand your first question, but let me help you here A 3000+ AMD cpu is actually 2.0Ghz. but since AMD has a diffrent counting then intel, the 3000+ is equal to a 3.0Ghz in Intels cpus.

yea, as dark nova said:
both will make great computers. They have, im sure unnoticeable differences in some areas. AMD is a little cheaper. Best bang for the buck currently: AMD: Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego Intel: Pentium 4 3.0 or 3.2 Prescott Flip a coin, go with one, and you'll be happy, with whatever you decide to go with. |

I compare AMD and Intel processors by the prices. Generally a similiary priced AMD performs about the same as a Intel around the same price. With two similary priced CPUs, you can't really tell the difference between the two.

Can anyone tell me how high-Ghz Celeron and Sempron compare to their Intel 4 and Athlon brothers - with emphasis on gaming?

Until the new Intel chips (Conroe) come out next year away, AMD chips have a significant lower heat output, which make them much easier to keep quiet and cooled. I'd advise AMD for the moment.

Thats true but check out the new cedar mills with the 65nm cores. Intel is really trying hard to fix the bad reputation for presscotts with heat. And ppl have been having alot of sucess with these new 65nm cedars.
