You stated that you forgot to connect the keyboard. Did you connect the keyboard whilst the system was powered up?
There is a possibility that you damaged the system board by connecting the keyboard whilst it was powered up. Some system boards utilize a fuse that is soldered in place to protect the system board against a shorted keyboard. Some system boards use either nothing or a jumper wire. 1. The keyboard being connected damaged the system board. 2. The keyboard fuse has failed and or the system board failed prior to the fuse blowing. 3. The system will need to be off and unplugged for about an hour for the system board to reset. (unlikely) DO NOT disconnect/connect a bus mouse or keyboard whilst power is applied. It is VERY likely that you may damage the system board and or keyboard/mouse. |

I have had fun with this one. Disconnect your reset switch... sounds like it is stuck.

I just set up a new PC
Celeron 500 - 128 Mb Century 133 Mhz RAM- Asus P3V4X Mainboard - Asus 3800 AGP Vidoe Card- Quantum fireball LM 10.2 Gb- Genious Venus Case I connected everyting according to manuals and powered the system. Everything looked to be fine monitor worked , beep came ,counting etc. HDD , power leds were ok. A green-blue screen came(Bios screen I guess) and then I realized I didn't connect keyboard. I pushed the reset button. HDD Led is on fans are on but monitor is black. System is not booting. No beep signal at all. I relocated the RAM but it didn't help. Black screen ! Tried several times no positive result. Why it worked first time but not after resetting? Please help me with your comments. all the best |

Disconnect all drives, etc. Take out all cards EXCEPT the video. You'll have mobo, cpu, memory, video only.
Clear the cmos and start over. Refer to the article on this site "Build a PC" Good luck, |

quote: Thanks a lot for your comments guys. Somehow I found a way to overcome the problem. This motherboard has Jumper Free option (by default) I cancelled jumper free mode and make adjustments with jumpers and bingo! screen came back. Strange isn't it ? Anyway I am hapy to have a non-black screen now. Reset switch and keyboard is working. thanks again |

That mobo has jumpers and BIOS softmenu?? That's kinda neat! That would be useful in certain situations. Oh well.

yeah I really don't know the advantage of having soft menu and Jumpers at the same time but soft menu didn't work at the first installment. May be later I can work on it but how can use it?

Most of the new Asus boards have both options.

Jumper settings....
take this out...and that out.... The truth is somthing is just probably loose. Otherwise, your memory is bad. I had the exact same problem with my asus p3v4x. Get your memory tested. It will save you lots of troubleshooting time. |

interesting kohlhk80 you had the same problem.
Is there a way to test the RAM by a software or I need to install it on a different computer and check it? |
