Need Help with a Modding Idea

ok so i have this case only in silver. (for some reason they no longer carry my color or model (i have the 2000 series), lucky me! :P) if you look at the top-down view you can see there is an 80mm fan on the top with a plastic covering and the USB/Firewire ports. i have never modded before and what to know if it would be feasible to expand this slot to a 120mm. i don't know how to cut the aluminum, but i do have a soldering kit, though i have yet to use it. i will practice though!
as well, the front two fans are suffocated by the lack of openings. one picture shows the small slits at the bottom. however, this part of the panel is about a 1/4 inch thick and i can't think of a way to expand the holes without ruining the case so i think i will just suck it up. also, if you look at the top-down picture, the plastic holes siginificantly reduce the amount of potential airflow. my solution for the top, single fan is to drill larger holes or even remove the plastic and replace it with a metal cage. for the side panel of two fans, i am want to drill the intake holes larger or cut out the plastic, specifically from the external sidepanel, not the interior mini-door.

For the top exhaust port, the best bet is to drill the holes bigger.
