Mouse does not work
Hello guys
I have a AMD Athlon 2000 xp+ Desktop,ASUS Motherboard,Windows XP OS which was not used continuously for 2 months, After 2 months when i started it, mouse icon was there but mouse did not work(it did not move). I thought it is a mouse problem so i replaced the mouse still the problem persisted. Also in Control Panel -> Mouse -> Hardware TAB , i dont see mouse mentioned. I did try following things without any success. 1) Replaced mouse with new one which did not solve the problem. 2) Used an adapter PS/2 to Serial to attach Mouse there. 3) Formatted my system and installed Windows again but this time even the icon disappeared during setup and now there is no icon also. Can someone here help me as to what is wrong in my pc? is it the motherboard problem? |

Does the mouse work on another computer? If so there could be a phycical problem with the mouse port. Maybe you could try a USB mouse.

I tried using a new mouse and it also does not work, may be i will seek for USB port but i doubt if a serial port does not work, how will a USB port work?
Even if there is prob. in ps/2 port. I think serial port should work. or maybe both are bad, i will try USB port today. Regards Vikrant |

Ok I brought a PS/2 to USB adaptor and tried using both my mouses
1) New Mouse :- When i inserted my new mouse nothing came on the screen and also in Add Hardware, it failed to identify the hardware ( i wonder whether this new mouse is also not working? ). 2) Old mouse :- When i tried my old mouse, it said found new Hardware -> USB Device, but when it went for upgrade it could not find the drivers for Mouse and instead gave the message " Windows found a driver that is closer to the one u have already installed" and it installed USB.inf as driver.( I also tried giving path from Windows CD)(so This port is working). But i think both the mouses are gone bad and also PS/2 port is bad. Rest everything works fine on my pc. My motherboard is A7S266 - VM/V2 ASUS SOCKET 462. with Onboard SIS Chipset. Also one strange thing, in BIOS i dont find CMOS menu anywhere. Pl. give suggestions as to following 1) When i inserted one mouse why it failed to identify the hardware while it idebntified the other one (Assuming both are bad). 2) If i buy a new USB Mouse will it work?(Assuming port is working as i have mentioned in my post) 3) Is this a problem with Motherboard jumpers? Thanks in advance |

Got replaced my new Mouse with a optical USB one and it works perfectly now.
That must be a problem with my both mouses. Regards Vikrant |
