Do i need thermal?

When a friend of mine helped me build my rig, he said i didnt need THERMAL paste, he seems to be right, i've been using this bad boy for a week now..my temps are low..65-80, 85Ftops (never seenit that high tho). Should i apply thermal paste..and is there a way to know when??

Did you use the stock AMD heatsink that came with your processor? If you did, it had a thermal pad affixed to the bottom. This is the TIM (thermal interface material) and is all you need.

But if your heatsink didn't have a thermal pad then you do need thermal compound of some sort.

What you never want to do is use both the thermal pad and thermal compound together at the same time.

Did it have a thermal pad at the bottom? Is this 65-80 degrees celcius or fahrenheit? 65-80 seems too low for fahrenheit, but that's way too high for Celcius.

i think it had pads, yes its Fahrenhite. I've checked like 30x. In the CPU, the program that came with the drivers, and my front LED..all say 65-80F. Around 29-30C.

Oh ok, 29-30C - that's much better. That's like 85-90F. Still a little low, but there are inaccuracies.
