Does anyone know why this might happen to my MP3s?
I recently added a second hardrive to my Dell 2400 desktop.
It's a segate 160 gig drive. I put all of my MP3s on it (about 3,000) and imported them into itunes. After doing this, at random times the songs will play "scratchy." If i Pause the songs, then play it again, it works fine. This seems to happen when i alter or move anything on the second drive. The second hardrive is currently my "slave" drive. Does anyone know why this may happen? Is putting you music on a second drive a bad idea? Any input would help me out. And also, when put on my original HD, the files have yet to make this noise. |

Need more info.
What are your system specs and OS? What type of Seagate is this...a IDE or SATA? What speed is the Seagate...5400 or 7200 RPM? If it's a IDE hard drive, how is it jumpered? And what type of IDE cable are you using? 40 wire or 80 wire? And is it on the same IDE channel as your main hard drive or is it on the other IDE channel? Cricket

Sorry about that, My dell has:
P4 2.2 ghz 768 Mb of RAM It's not a powerhouse, but the performence should be more than enough to run some MP3s. Since it is a Dell, you can assume i'm using Microsoft Windows. I have the Home edition, SP2. It's an IDE segate and runs at 7200 RPMs. It is jumpered using the same IDE cable as my main Hardrive. The Drive came with one that i used. I'm not sure on the wire rating, could that be a factor? |

How often do you defrag the hard drives?
DELLs usually use cable select IDE cables so both hard drives should be set to CS. Check the two hard drives and see what the jumper is set to on both. If the original hard drive jumper is set to CS, the new hard drive should be set to CS too. If the original hard drive jumper is set to master, set the new hard drive jumper to slave. Have you thought about maybe putting the new hard drive on the other IDE channel? Cricket

Hey thanks for all the help, I think i found the problem.
I think the problem is with my iTunes. When i play the files in WM, they play and sound fine. What I did was Uninstall itunes, Clear the iTunes folder, run Regseeker, then reinstall the program. So far this has worked. Again thanks for the help! |
