VGA Cooler Question and AS5

Ok. I went with a Zalman Fatal1ty FS-V7 cooler for my X850 XT PE (PCI-E) card. I applied Artic Silver 5 on it and all the chipsets. It idles at around 36C which is great. But when I play a game, it jumps to almost 78C! Now I JUST installed this cooler today. Is there some sort of a break in period of AS5 to work well? Cause jumping from 36C at idle to 78C on load is pretty dang high. Any help would be appreciated. I will shut down the PC tonight and let it cool.

Yikes...is that fan speed controlable? Was there a thermal probe that you'd have to install? It wouldn't have to run fast during idle operation, but the fan would have to speed up to keep it cool during a load. If the stock fan stayed idle it would certainly heat up quickly.

Turbo,

This was why I asked you about your A5 in another thread, I was debating between that and the Zalman. I think to use a Zalman you need great case cooling, as it doesn't move the air out of the case. I was considering one of those but think I'll go with the A5.

As far as your AS5 questions, it is said that it needs about 200 hours to "set in". With that said, I doubt you will see a SIGNIFICANT drop in temps from what you're getting now (<5C) when it DOES settle in. What game were you playing? My X850XT PE on stock cooling runs between 127-141F in COD2, about 121-131F in BF2 and always less than 118F in RVS.

BF2.

The fan is controlled by depending on which plug u use. the 5V or the 12V. I use the 12V and it still does this. The fan is on high at all times.

Yeah I am thinking about throwing the freaking Silencer 5 back on there.

Dunno...maybe you could try re-installing it. It's possible it isn't installed completely right.

I have reinstalled it twice now and it still idles real cool but loads high. I checked to make sure that the GPU is covered completely when I uninstalled it and the AS5 is all over where the GPU is and same goes for the chipsets. I just don't get it. Heck, I even have a 80mm tornado fan (on a fan controller) set on low but still moves a lot of air even on low speed on the side of my case blowing on the video card.

Make sure you aren't putting too much AS5 on it, you only need just enough to barely cover it.

Dont sweat it, as long as your not experiencing any heat related slow downs;Dont worry. That X850 max temp is around 110c, and 78c is well within limits, not to mention the software reading the temps can be innacurate. GPU's are not like cpu's, and can take mutch higher temps with no problem.

Yeah but I went from a cooler that kept it at 45C at load, to 78C on load. haha. Not exactly a very "cool" vga cooler.

Ok, lots more bad news....I must have funked up or something bad. No idea how I even did it but now I am getting vertical (white) lines thru my video and it gets worse the longer i leave it on. Happens as soon as the bios screen loads up. I want to punch myself in the head for being a moron. Lesson learned...if the Silencer 5 you have on there is doing a great job...DON'T F WITH IT!
