hard drive setup question for my new build
Hey all, I need some advice on the following issue. In the next few days I'll be doing my 1st build, and the only new component I didn't buy is the hard drive, since I am gonna use the IDE drive already in my computer (Dell 8100) on my new one. About a month ago I wiped the whole drive and reinstalled windows, so it's not a very "bloated" version by any means. When I move the drive to my new build, do you guys think it's worth it to try and install it with windows still on it (using that tip in the "tips and tricks" forum .. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=43654)
or should I wipe the drive clean and start from scratch again (is it ok that I am using an XP Upgrade disc and using my Dell ME disc as my validation copy?). I will be taking XP off my old machine and going back to ME so i don't violate the Windows EULA... Sorry if this was confusing, any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays! steve |

The ENUM thread says for Windows 2000 so I don't know if it will work for XP?
Yes, you can use your XP Upgrade disc and your ME disc for the validation if you decide to reformat. Last edited by not important; 12-25-2005 at 08:09 AM. |

good point though I just figured maybe it would work cuz I was thinking that XP was built on the Windows 2000 platform (i think). I guess I could just reformat and reinstall though. any other toughts? thanks

The ENUM trick doesn't work for WinXP.
If you have a WinXP CD you can try a WinXP Repair Install. Cricket
