external HDD problem
okay so here is the situation: I tore my ACL, had surgery, was in bed with my laptop with my external HDD connected to it. The external HDD was on a dresser by my bed. It fell off and now doesnt work. Now when I turn it on the laptop doesnt recognize it as plug and play and it makes a faint beeping noise.
questions..... 1. is my external HDD done/broke? or can it be fixed? 2. Even if it can be fixed will the data i had on it be salvagable? thanks.

Two possiblities on the drive: 1. cable or connector in the housing came loose or broke or 2. the drive is trashed.
As for recovery of data, it can be done but is expensive/up to a $1000.
