Laser mice or optical mice?

Ive been looking into a new RAZER mouse since my old boomslang has worn down and ive looked at the razer diamondback and the copperhead

The diamond back is labeled as optical engine running 1600 dpi
the copperhead is labeled as laser engine running 2000 dpi

Now i dont think its possible for me to see the difference between 1600 and 2000 dpi but what does laser and optical mean and whats the difference.

Thank you the 2 mice were labled like that on newegg.com

I ask all this because the price difference is about 30-40$ and im willing to pay it if laser has any meaning

From my experience,

Laser is the newer technology although both of them are pretty much the same thing. The laser captures better quality images and therefore is more responsive to changes compared to optical.

Laser is the choice if you have money and you game a lot otherwise get the optical mice which is usually cheaper.
