problem installing additional SATA hard drive

I current have a computer with a MSI K8T NEO2-FIR motherboard, which has two SATA controllers. For the past year and a half, I have had two SATA drives installed on the VIA SATA controller. I recently tried to install an additional SATA hard drive on one of the slots on the Promise controller. Now when I start my computer, it eventually gets to a blank screen with a flashing cursor and stays there. I assume that the computer is trying to boot the new hard drive which, of course, has no boot record. I attempted to force my motherboard to boot the old primary hard drive and got the following error:

"Windows Could Not Start Because of a Computer Disk Hardware Configuration Problem"

I've tried everything I can think of to get my computer to work and am looking for any advice, because I am about ready to break something.

Much appreciated

I'm not at that computer at the moment, so I'm not able to check the BIOS right now; but I do know that is seen during the initial boot process. I should also note that if I unplug the new drive, I can start windows just fine.

I don't have a sata promise controller card but I do have an ide promise controller card(ultra 100). With my card the boot hard drive must be on the promise card or it won't boot. Check your documentation; you may be running into the same problem. IIRC you are suppose to install the promise drivers in windows before you move the boot drive over to the promise card.

You have to install the Promise drivers in order for the device to work.
The Via controller is native whereas the Promise isn't.
