My disk drive won't open.

I have just finished building my first PC and when I powered it up, I pressed the eject button on my DVD drive, but it didn't open. Does anyone know what may be causing this problem? I'm a noob to PC building, so I may have made a mistake although I double-checked and everything seems fine.

Make sure the 4 pin power connector is plugged in properly and all the way in. If that doesn't work, try a different power connector. If it still doesn't work, return it - it's defective.

Does the drive turn on (ie. sound like it's running) when you switch on? Who is the manufacturer?

the manufacturer is SONY - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...7123&CatId=482
It would be awkward for it to be defective because it's brand new. I also tried to plug in another (older) disk drive and that one doesn't open either.

It could be incorrect jumpering and/or cabling - that can prevent it from working. Verify the IDE ribbon is connected properly and the drive or drives on the cable are jumpered correctly.

Is the jumper setting correct? If you have more than one drive connected to that cable, make sure one is set as slave and the other set as master. If it is the only one, make sure it is set as master or CS. Some computers won't recognize CS, so it would be best to set it as master. Also make sure the power supply is connected correctly, and make sure that red line on the connector is on the same side as the power connection.
