cpu help
i have alot to ask but here is one. i was looking on newegg and i saw 2 cpu one is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116198 and the other is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116200
now the 1st one is 172.00 and the other is 191.00. when i look at them both to me it looks like the 172.00 is better then the 191.00. can someone look at them and tell me why the 191.00 is more then the 172.00 Last edited by travis77; 01-02-2006 at 12:13 AM. |

i think the 172 dollar one would be better because it is cheaper than the other one, and it has 2 MB of L2 Cache

Supply and demand. The 630 is actually a better processor because it has the EM64T extensions and the extra cache.

cool that is what i was thinking
here is my next thing the motherboard. now i was looking on newegg Category Search on the CPU Type. i know it is a Intel Pentium 4 630 Prescott 800MHz. so on the cpu type dons it have to be Pentium 4 Prescott or can it just be Pentium 4. why i ask is when i did a Category Search on my cpu on Series i put Pentium 4 and on the cpu the core is a prescott. |

Just use the LGA 775 in your search and you'll get a matching mobo. I'd lean towards Intel or Asus branded mobo's.

so why when i try to find a motherboard i use Category Search and on the cpu type there is one call Pentium 4 Prescott and the other is just Pentium 4

The socket 478 mobo's used either a P4 Northwood core or later on the Prescott core was introduced for that socket. Then the LGA 775 socket was introduced and it is only Prescott core. I think when you select the plain Pentium 4 you're asking for the 478 socket mobo's.
