dvd rom drive problem
hi
i have just installed a dvd rom on a computer running win xp and i'm getting a lot of problem for it to work.the problem is that the dvd rom icon does not appear in my computer and in device manager.i try to set it as master then slave ,still it does not appear in My Computer. can someone identify the problem for me ? i'm not so sure but i think that it is the program Daemon Tools which might be causing conflicts ,i have not tried to remove it yet so i would appreciate anyone's help. thanks |

The jumpers of both drives have to be set accordingly. Daemon Tools doesn't cause conflicts. It adds virtual drives, but the physical ones remain usable. RJ

Are the IDE controllers showing up in device manager? Are any of them yellow or red flagged?

this sounds stupid....but did you remember to connect the molex power cables?
can you even open and close the drive manually? |

the dvd rom drive has been connected with another dvd writable drive on the same ide cable.the writable dvd has been set as master with jumper to the right whereas the dvd rom jumper is in the middle. there is no red or yellow flag in device manager, the dvd rom drive did not even appear in device manager.
the power cable has been correctly set as when i pressed the eject on the drive ,it opens and closes normally(manually). i even tried to set the dvd rom drive alone in its ide channel with cable select option but still does not work. so what could be the problem??? |

Try the drive in another computer - it could be a defective drive.
