IDE Cable ATA 100?
My hard drives are both ATA 100 (UDMA 5) but when I boot up it lists them as running at UDMA 2. Could I just be using the wrong cable? If I go into BIOS and manually set my HD info and then set them to UDMA 5 my system hangs on boot. I'm not sure what the speed of my cable that I'm using. I just found it in one of my many piles of computer parts.

An Ultra66/100 cable will have blue, grey, and black connectors on it. You will also notice although there are 40 pin connections (actually 39, 1 should be blocked out) there are 80 wires in the cable. You need this cable to run Ultra66/100. Your motherboard should have come with this cable.

You will also have to set the drives to Cable Select if you are using the 80 wire cable, NOT master and slave. Master and slave are solely determined by the drive's position on the cable - blue to board, black to master, and gray to slave.

Oh Ok, I have them set to Master and Slave right now. The Cable I was using had a blue end etc, but I was getting A LOT of problems. Once I switched cables everything was working fine. I'll switch the cable back and then set the drives to cable select. The Master will be the drive at the very end of the cable correct?

That's right, the master must be on the end, the slave in the middle, both drives set to cable select.

Also it's vital that the blue end goes to motherboard, the black end is to master, and the gray middle one to slave(drives set to cable select)

Ok, I put the other cable back on and set the jumpers to cable select and the drives now register as UDMA 5 and my computer is booting fine. Thanks for the help.
