PCI to SATA (HD) Card problems

I've got a mobo without any onboard SATA capabilities (Motherboard). I bought this PCI to SATA card, and this HD to run as my primary HDD. This system originally had a HD connected through IDE, so I can still use this one in the mean time if anything needs to be done before booting up with the other? Now my problem is that when I tried booting up with the new HD (SATA HD) it just doesn't pick it up as a boot device, the computer recognizes the card & once I put the old HD drive in I can see that it also sees the HD connected to the card; but as said in bios it's just not seen as a boot device. I checked in bios and really came up with nothing to resolve the issue if anyone has got any ideas I would be more than appreciative. Also I've read the above SATA sticky & didn't really find anything that dealt directly with my problem.

What are all the boot choices you have available in your BIOS?? Most I have seen have an option usually called "other device" or something to that effect, and if yours does that is what you would want to set it to.

Does the SATA HDD even have an operating system on it? The system won't boot to it if doesn't have an OS on it.

No OS the drive is fresh, is there any way of loading one on it? The computer doesn't recognize it as an existing HD, the only way it sees that it's in there is if I open the SATA controller in Cont.Pnl. but I can't access it. Is there anything on the new HDs jumpers that I should change that might be preventing it? Here is the manual to the Mobo an in-depth BIOS setup section starts on the 28th page of the pdf. I appreciate the responses I've gotten and thank you for looking.

You need to boot with the OS CD (2000 or XP) and press F6 to load 3rd party drivers. You need a floppy with the SATA card drivers on it. I would recommend you disconnect the IDE drive when you do this.

Appreciate it, that did the trick.
