OC'ing on this system.

I was oc'ing my cpu in this system:
AMD 64 3500+ Venice
ASUS A8V-deluxe
2x 512mb corsair valueselect
thermaltake tsunami
thermalright xp-120 with a thermaltake 120mm fan on top.

This was the first time oc'ing so i wasnt that sure of what to do. i got into the bios, and wasnt sure on what to do and i just set it to oc 3% and slowly went up to 10%. right now my cpu is at 2.42 ghz, and is 44 degrees celcius under the torture test. i wasnt sure where to change the memory dividers and other stuff. any suggestions on how i can oc even further, or should i just stay the way i am? i dont care if i destroy my cpu, it is my first time anyways.(if i mess it up, i can always get a new one thats much better =D).

The trick is to learn to do it right without busting it....You only bust stuff if you take it to far....

Try typing *overclocking* in a couple of search engines...then read what you come up with......read... read....read....it's the true way to learn....

I agree, read about what your doing first. You can cost youself a lot of money if you mess it up. I have never OC'ed an A64 and I know its a little different from other systems... There is a thread here somewhere... it was a sticky at one point (still might be) about A64 Oc'ing... try reading that.

EDIT: yup, here it is, a sticky... http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=142256

you want to use the divider that allows the RAM to run as fast as possible. 1:1 would be your best bet. You have value RAM so it may not run 1:1, with an A64 the divider doesn't matter much. 1:1 is best but you wont notice much of a diffence in performance.

As for voltage, if you are talking about vcore then only bump it up when they system is unstable. Ex: raise the FSB, test, if stable, raise FSB, test, If unstable raise vcore, test, etc. If you are talking about the vdimm then I would set it to the mobo's max. most of the time RAM likes higher voltage.

I like the kids approach. I've only overclocked DFI and MSI boards w/A64s so I'm not really certain how the ASUS BIOS appears. The 3500+ Venice would have a multiplier of 11, I believe. First off I wouldn't use that percentage thingy to OC unless you're happy with say a 10% overclock. READ ALL YOU CAN there are several variables on these A64 boards too much to cover in one post. You'll basically want to find the maximum speed of you're CPU, then get your RAM to run as close to that as possible, and that RAM you have probably won't OC well. There are OCing guides stickied here. Good luck

i've been reading the stickies, and i have one part that i'm not sure of, how far should i raise the voltages for each one? if i didnt mention this already, the 10% oc runs around 30c when idle, and 40 c when im gaming.

you just raise them enough to get stable if you run into instability...

you should test the ram and cpu different to see how far each one will go on it's own....that way when you do run into stability problems you'll know wether it's ram or cpu.....
