Warning: ...there may be a problem with your USB Controller...

First of all, hi. Secondly, I know very little about working with my computer, but I'm trying to learn so please be patient.

I installed an Iomega ZipCD 650 to the USB port. I'm trying to use Adaptec/ Roxio Easy CD Creator version 4.02. I'm running Windows 98 SE.

I have never had a serious problem with my computer, but since installing the CD-RW and its software on Sunday, everything has been a mess. Constant freeze-ups, blue screens, shutdowns, etc. The last straw was Monday night when Windows could not detect my modem. When I tried to connect, I got a blue screen or it just shutdown. It says my modem is using Comm2, but only Comm1 is listed in the ports. After about 4 shutdowns and restarts it finally let me connect, but ever since then I've been afraid to use the CD-RW or to shutdown the machine for fear of what might happen next.

I went to Roxio and downloaded the only update for the software. It upgraded it to 4.05. Then I went to Iomega and downloaded a patch for the recorder which is supposed to be used if you have Windows 98. After downloading, I got a box with this on the screen: Installation Comple Warning: Setup has
determined that there may be a problem with your USB controller. Data loss may result if you use more than one USB device at the same time. See the documentation that shipped with your drive or cable for further details about your USB controller.

How do I find out what the problem with my USB Controller is? There's no documentation with the CD-RW about it.

I went to the Device Manager and according to it everything is working properly. Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is listed Generic USB Hub, Iomega CD-RW USB Driver, SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller, and USB Root Hub. Everything is marked working properly and no conflicts, though most have not had any driver updates since the computer was purchased 2 years ago. There's also an Iomega Win 98 USB Disk Controller listed. Someone had mentioned the IRQ. I found SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus - working properly - no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device.

I don't know much about this, but I can follow directions. Does someone out there think they may be able to help me through this?

Hi wedor. Yes, when I first installed I put Direct CD on there as well. When I first had problems I uninstalled it all and then re-installed it all. When the problems continued, I uninstalled it all and then only re-installed Easy CD Creator. It had the problems with the modem later.

From what someone said on another board, I'm fairly convince now that it's a problem with the recorder and the USB.

Thanks for taking the time to try to help me out.
