Rant: Asus TV/FM PCI Card
[rant begins]
I really like Asus motherboards! However, the TV FM card that they provide is disappointing, based on first impression, IMHO. The radio stations do not pick up the stations properly and the TV software is lacking basic features ... even changing stations is a chore. It appears that TV cannot be viewed in a minimized window while using another app [seems better suited for dual display ... which may be OK if that's what is expected]. Also, the software adds non-desired items to a PC's registry. To top this, drivers are only available for Win2000/WinXp. If you have been considering getting this peripheral based on the 'trusted name', I suggest that you reconsider other alternatives. [rant ends]. [edit: adding rating after reading guidelines for this forum ... 1 out of 10]

Reinstalling the drivers using the included CD allowed a reception of FM at last. Since starting this thread, I found several options for changing stations ... including using the keypad and pressing enter. The TV window can be minimized.
The card is not so bad after all and not very costly [about $40 cnd] considering what it does. There were a few hickups during the install and the software did change JPG icons even though there are no JPG association with that app. Overall, I give this card a 7 out of 10. |
