Optimizing SLI Gaming Performance
Well, I was one of the first around here to jump on the SLI train and so far the ride has been great. Havent had a complaint whatsoever, until now. After talking to some of my fellow 'online gamers' I am noticing that I dont get the frame rates I feel like I should be getting with my MSI 6600 GT's running in SLI. Honestly, I have everything setup correctly so that I am using the cards in SLI, but for some reason I really feel like my frame rate should be higher.
Right now I play A LOT of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and I have been talking to a few of my 'clan' members about their frame rates. Some run a simple ATI 9800 XT and are getting 197 FPS steady! Before now, without maxing out my frame rates, I was getting a jumping FPS of 70-90. I feel like I should be getting more from my cards in this game without digging into console commands. I used a certain command in ET to max out my frames at about 200 and the FPS still jumps but I at least am in the mid 100's. Any ideas? My benchmarks seem about ride for SLI, but I guess I could try them again to make sure. Hopefully someone has something for me other than overclocking, because I really dont want or need to go there. Thanks, AK

What are your AA and AF at? Within your nvidia console, try either selecting AA and AF to be controled by the game, or disable them, then within the game, select your AA and AF settings. Another thing could be that the game you are playing isn't part of SLI's automatic game optimization profiles... so you would have tweak AA and AF and what not yourself for best FPS.

What's wrong with 70-90 FPS? That's more than you'll ever need.

I did do some checking around at the FPS on the single 6600 GT card and I know in SLI I should be doing around 15-25% better at least. Dunno what is going on. All my games run super smooth and I havent had anything go wrong. I also understand the old saying 'If it isnt broke, dont fix it!' AK |
