Can't Remember About AMD Athlon64 Drivers?

If you have followed some of my other threads, I have recently reformatted and re-installed XP Pro SP2 onto the secondary harddrive of mine which was once used as a backup drive. Currently, I have made sure to install the drivers from my Mobo CD and update the SLI drivers to the latest version. Now, I remember hearing about AMD drivers for my FX55 - but I can't seem to remember if I had installed AMD drivers before I reformatted. Is this something I need to do? If so, which drivers do I need?

I did some looking around on AMD's website and found this page:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...1_9706,00.html

Should I be installing - "AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (exe) 1.2.2.2" ?

Thanks In advance
Ryan

Ryan,
I can't give you any FX-55 specific advice but on my new build my processor was running just find on the generic microsoft processor driver, but I decided to download the one off the link you listed because I figured if there is an amd driver there must be a reason to use it. Could have something to do with the Cool n Quiet interface or the power saving feature that I believe are built into the 64's. Though if you feel like it's running fine I wouldn't think you NEED to install it. just my .02

The only thing I can think of is if your Motherboard BIOS needed updated to support your processor. Otherwise, it's up to you whether you install new AMD drivers or stick with Microsoft's.

Thanks, I might as well do it - they must be there for a reason like Louds3 said. I haven't encountered any stability issues yet - and I have never used Cool and Quiet as my case is loud enough with my case fans (the added noise from the HSF isn't noticible).
