64 bit CPU & Motherboard...
Can someone tell me if a 64 bit CPU needs a 64 bit motherboard to function?
I'm looking at the Asus P5S800-VM motherboard and an Intel 64 bit chip of the same socket. I'm not sure if the motherboard is 64 bit. I was just wondering if the board has to be 64 bit enabled for the chip to work. Thanks for any help, Jon |

Motherboard "bits" has nothing to do with it - all it has to have is the correct socket and support for the specific processor. Asus has a compatibility chart on their support site.

I checked the CPU support and it looks like that board supports the 64-bit Intels (6xx series).
