q's about external hdd's
im filling up my 160gb hdd space on my computer pretty fast and was looking at maybe getting an external hard drive but don't know much about them. what are the advantages and disadvantages with them? are they easy to work with? when you plug the drive into a usb 2.0 port does it just show up as another drive on my computer? and i can take it out and use it in another computer at any time? do they corrupt easier than internal hdd drives? any brands you guys recommend? looking for about 160gb drive. thanks alot for the help.

No difference there. I'm using a 250Gb Maxtor One Touch II, 7200 rpm 16Mb cache and am pretty happy with it. Haven't had any problems with it.

The stand-alone external drives are more expensive. You can purchase what is called an external enclosure, and then place any size HDD into it, swapping them out when necessary.
Yes, they show as another drive letter when plugged in. Yes, they are removable to other computers. No, I don't think corruption is any more likely, as long as you handle their movement carefully.
