Needed: Good Hard Drive Test/Format Utility (IDE Drives)

I have a few hard drives kicking around that I am a bit suspicious of. I usually format with my Win 98 Boot Disk but I am looking for something to check the integrity of a drive, give me some information on the drive and weather or not it is safe to use. Any ideas?

Current Tools:

Norton Ghost 7 Drive Integrity Check
Win 98 Boot Disk
Windows Check Disk
XP Home Recovery CHKDSK /P Command

OtherS/

Go to WD and Maxtor's site, and d/l their diagnostic untilties. They're good to run when in doubt.

Download the Ultimate Boot CD. It has diags for almost every brand drive out there (WD, Maxtor, Seagate, IBM/Hitachi, Fujitsu, and Samsung).

ubcd.sourceforge.net

Note - the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test can diagnose all brands, but can only zero fill or attempt to repair Hitachi/IBM drives. If you need a zero fill, the UBCD has Darik's Boot and Nuke on it.

If you have a drive with bad sectors, I use Spinrite to fix it up so I can recover the data, but that's $89.
