HDD Failiure
Is it true that defragmenting or formating your hard drive a lot can damage it. This is what i heard people say but im not sure if its true now. For my opinion i would say no because you hard drive is made to do all these things. Im sure their tested before they sell the hdd.
What do you guys think about this?

Too much defragmentation can cause your filing system to get confused and become corrupted, which is why you should only defrag at least once a month. I've just defragged mine actually, and it's improved the OS performance a bit. But no, it's impossible to damage a hard drive through too much defragging and formatting.

Nope, not right now, but come to think of it that's true for FAT32 not NTFS, considering it's more robust. D'oh! I think I've had too many late nights.

I defrag at least one a week, and more depending on what I'm doing...

Twice a week for me, never on any harddrive I have had, has it been damaged due to Defragging.

I defrag at LEAST twice per week, as well as every time I add or remove a program.

I thought I was a bit anal about defragging but I see I'm not the only one who defrags several times a week.

Mine is set up to defrag everytime my screensaver comes on. It's a bit overkill and I certainly don't need it done that often but it's a setting I decided to try one day and I just kind of left it like that. No damage here.

I use Diskeeper Pro and it defrags itself when it needs it - usually about once or twice a day.
