pc problem
I took a pc I had in storage and wanted to use it again. I was going to wipe everything and start fresh until.....
I put the windows disc in and it just starts checking the hardware when all of a sudden the pc shuts down. I get no blue screen, errors or anything. I have 2 cd drives, so I put the cd in the other one and still the same thing. I tried doing a memory test from Microsoft and still the same thing. The fans are all working and I can play online RPG games with no problem. The thing is, if I boot up the pc normally to the desktop, everything is fine. I even had to where the pc was using 90% pc usuage and no problems. I even burned a cd and no problems. I don't think it is the memory but I could be wrong. I don't want to just start buying replacement parts out of the blue without something specfic which I know is hard to do with a computer. This has got me baffled to say the least and I can't find anyone who has similar problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks It's a HP Pavilion 2.6 Pentium4 512 DDR Ram (1 stick) 120 gig hard drive Nvidia GeoForce 128meg video card Sony DVD burner Sony CD-rom drive |

I think I found the problem, it is the Himem.sys. The extended memory manager for DOS. Which come to think of it the memory test I did uses DOS and I believe the windows disc uses DOS as well. I tried using Powermax from the Maxtors website. Upon bootup as the disc is being read I get the error, "Warning: address line a20 already enabled"
