IDE #1 Error (Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 with TEAC DW-224E)

hi @ll, here a problem postet to every forum i know:
(Satellite Pro 2100 with TEAC DW-224E)
old teac out, new one in (same one) -> IDE error at BIOS
old one BACK IN - > also IDE Error now. (that was not there before.) WHY THE HELL THAT????

Toshiba site and support is crap, some other partner meant that
a) IDE controller could be dead (why is then my HD still working?)
b) the drive connection could be not 100% (but it has power and opens etc.)

i can not flash the new drive to slave cause it is not recogniced at my laptop (notebook only recognices slave (reverse cable select) junpered/flashed drives),
i dont have an adaptor to connect to desktop. but even if i could flash it right, like my old drive is already, it would not be recogniced i guess....

what do u think?

bios settings are not accessable (on my toshiba satellite pro 2100 and i dont know how to check if the IDE controller is broken or how to read errors out of it)
do I need to solder two pins in my cd drive and everything would be (slave then) better?

thanx for all answers (if there are any )

I recently had a customer with this error message on a Toshiba Satilite. I removed the hardrive, DVD/CDRW, and battery, then reconnected the devices. This caused the BIOS to reset and resolved the error message.

Something you didn't mention in your post is if the CD device worked while in Windows?

hi there, thanx for answering ;-)

if the drive worked in win? do you mean that without the bios, my windows just recognized it then? i did read some situations like that. but that was not hte case at my notebook :-(

finnaly i did connect 2 pins inside my drive then was slave "jumpered" (soldering) and then it was recognized as slave...

how you tricked your bios is a totally riddle for me ;-)
