Working computer, Away for 15 days, now No beeps at all
My desktop system was working fine. I was away for 15 days on a holiday trip. Now My desktop system is not booting. Not even initial beeps. I tried
several ways, opening the system. Processor is fine. PSU is fine. tested with another computer. I am thinking, Motherboard may be faulty. Do you think that if we don't switch it on for few days, motherboard will not work ? are there any chances ? It could also happen that my friend used the system ? saying he didn't. |

If nothing works(fans, lights, etc.), then make sure all power cords are securely connected, the power toggle switches on the surge arrestor(if you use one) and on the back of the computer are in the 'ON' position, and there's power at the wall outlet.
If those are ok, then connect the computer's power cord directly to the outlet. If that works, then the arrestor is bad. If that does not work, then check if the computer's power cord has power at the computer connection end. If not, then replace it with a known working cord. If the cord is getting power to the computer, then either test the power supply, or swap it out. If the PS is ok, then the MB may be bad. Check it for any leaking, bulging, or ruptured capacitors. If any are seen like this, then replace the MB. If they look ok, then swap out the MB, or have it tested. If the fans and lights work, but there's no display, then reseat the RAM and video card. If no luck, then do a barebones setup with just the PS, MB, RAM, video card, monitor, and KB installed. If that works, then install all drives and other components one at a time until the problem resurfaces. The last item installed is the cause. If the barebones does not work, then replace the CMOS battery. If no luck, then reset CMOS either with a MB jumper(see computer's or MB's documentation) or by removing the CMOS battery for 30 minutes. If no good, then swap out the MB, CPU, RAM, and video card, or have them tested. |
