CPU Fan Error???
I installed an after market heatsink/fan (http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16835186134) on my MoBo (http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131545) bc I heard that my Pentium D 820 runs very hot. Well after I installed the fan, as its booting up, it beeps to me and says CPU Fan Error. I have NO IDEA WHY. I have read the instructions, dont the research and I havent done anything wrong...i just dont know what the problem is. The computer turns on, but when i look in the task mngr, both my CPU's are going CRAZY...so i just turn it off bc im affraid of a melt down or something. Any suggestions?

That particular CPU fan may not be reporting fan RPMs even though it's running (have you verified the fan is actually running?). It may also be running so slowly the computer thinks there's a problem with it. If the fan is running fine you should be able to disable the fan error in the BIOS somewhere so you don't get that error, or if you are getting fan RPMs reported, lower the alarm threshold below the speed of the fan (looks like 300 rpm at the minimum).

Did u make sure that u plugged in the connector from the fan in the proper place? And not in one of ther other areas pwm areas? Does it report the rpms in your bios? I had a problem like that with my aftermarket heatsinkfan setup. I just ignored the cpu fan speed in the bios.

Is the HSF seated tightly to the CPU? I tried one of that brand on a socket478 board. It would not seat tight and my temps were higher than they were with the stock HSF. I comtacted the Manufacturer but never got a reply so I returned it and got a Zalman.

The fan is running fine. I can see it through my case. It's plugged into the correct socket as well. I just dont know why it keeps telling me there's a CPU Fan Error. how do i go into my bio's and see the rpms? i've done the whole, boot up, hit F1...go into the programing screens...but i didnt see anything about my fans.

It's probably under a PC health section or something like that. You'd also find the temps and voltages there...
Or you can use a program such as SpeedFan once you get into Windows to see the fan speeds... http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php |
