Seagate HDD. Is it buggered?
I recently bought a PC from HP with the following specs:
Athlon 64 3400+ 1gb ddr400 160gb seagate sata hard drive 160gb HP media drive HP DVD writer Onboard sound and graphics. Its been working fine for about a week but when I went to switch it on today it would not boot. It gets to the windows xp home oading screen and stays there forever. It won't get into safe mode and it won't even load the HP recovery software. I used the SMART self test in the BIOS and it comes back failed. Saying that there is SMART value 5 electrical component unknown. According to seagates website this is a read/write head failure. But it doesn't say what needs to be done. The drive is a 160gb seagate st3160023a. Does this mean it is screwed? Can it be fixed or do I have to send it back to them and wait forever til I can use my PC again? |
