Linksys KVM Switch?

Hey. I'm looking to buy this switch after a friend is giving me her old Dell. I like the hotkey feature and people that reviewed it on NewEgg say it doesn't beep, which I don't want it to. I'm thinking about setting up the old Dell as a basic Linux machine. Would this switch work with like an old copy of RedHat 9.0 or would it have problems detecting the hardware?

Thanks.

There's nothing to detect. It's a pure PS/2 device. As long as your keyboard and mouse are recognizable, that's all it takes.

I don't know about the power going through the ports, but is the same power going through a PS/2 port as a USB? My Saitek Eclipse will still be able to light and all?

If you have a USB to PS/2 adapter that will work with that device, yes.

Following up on this, it turns out that the Saitek Eclipse does not work with a PS/2 adapter. The back lights just blink and I get an POST test error of "Keyboard not present". I have an old HP PS/2 keyboard in right now and a Microsoft mouse with a PS/2 adapter on it and they both work fine. I'm pretty sure it's the keyboard.

I would recommend against that particular KVM. It has a low mouse refresh rate which makes it terrible for gaming. You can probably see this in the reviews and I have had personal experience with it. Newegg has a kvm made by linksey which is all usb, both at the computers and the mouse and keyboard, this might be good for you. One of my friends has it and it works fine with his saitek keyboard.

I haven't noticed any mouse lag or any quality reduction in the monitor. I'm happy with it other than my keyboard not working. That Linkskey switch was a bit too expensive for me. I was just looking for a cheap one and I decided to just go with a brand I knew and it got so many good reviews on NewEgg.
