you might do a bit more testing and checking.
make sure the power connector is all the way in and that it does have power on it or try a differant connector.
does the led on it light up when ths system boots up ?
double check the ribbon ide cable to be sure it is connected good, and that the jumper is correct on the back of the drive.

a bad drive would not be impossible too.

the drive has a set of jumpers on the back, between the power connector and the ide connector, there is a lable on the top of the drive showing how to place the jumper as master, slave, or cable select.
if your using a 80 conductor cable, then you want the jumper set to cable select.
if your using a 40 conductor cable, then you want it set to master or slave, which ever your using.
usally there is markings on the back of the case labled cls, ma, or sl.

On CD drives, the jumpers are on the opposite side of the IDE connector and the power connector - between the IDE connector and the analog audio cable jack.

glc and baily there is no jumper on the back per the supplied pic.Seems to be just a cheap drive that has gone bad.Its an Afreey # CD-2O56e.
It was working before so I dont understand this.I'm going to try the Plextor from my other case....

postscript=just a bad drive, put the Plextor in hooked it the same and it works fine...
