AMD dual core / USB problems
I just installed a 4200+ 2X on my epox 9npa+ultra. It is rock stable running prime95, multiple software installs, UT2004, etc. When I switch on my usb external drive, the system locks up and must be reset with the reset switch. This happens about 75% of the time when switching on the usb external drive. Event viewer does not list any issues.
This never happened when running the same hardware with a single core 3500+ Running win2k sp4 as a clean install with the cpu upgrade. 1 gig [512X2] corsair ram 2 Seagate 120 gig sata2 drives in raid0 on promise tx4300 raid controller Sparkle 550W power supply Tried 6.70 nforce drivers and currently trying 6.66 Using latest release video driver for 6600gt evga card |

May need to run the USB drive from a powered USB hub. That drive may draw too much current from the USB socket on the computer.

It is a powered enclosure. I just swapped back to a 3500+ and it runs fine. I think this cpu is going back.

Yes, running latest bios.
After a full day of being on the phone with epox and nvidia, I am going to rma the cpu. It works fine unless you use a usb device. Then it hard locks the system about 25% of the time. |
