dvd burner problem....
hey everyone I have been having the strangest problem with a friend's dvdrw new drive. I installed it using the cd rom ide cable and connected it to that and when I do that the cd rom and the dvd burner get no power or even detect and the computer takes about 2 minutes to send me to an all black screen saying insert boot device. or boot device not detected. now on that ide cable that is used by the cd rom which I tried connecting the dvd to, it used to have an hd that my friend connected to, he didn't know and just used that to connect which is ok. But now when I connect to the main hd ide cable (the dvd burner that is) it is detected and everything works fine. Now how can I use the cd rom's ide cable to connect the dvd burner to so it connects? I tried bios boot settings and when I install it to cd rom I only get one boot choice.... I have no idea what to do, please help.... Thank You In Advance!

Just the past build I did required the DVD burner to have an 80 wire IDE cable (while I was using a 40 wire).
This is may be the problem you have - count the number of wires in the IDE cable. If there are 40, try using an 80. It would be alot easier to diagnose with complete build specs. |

How are the drives jumpered?
Have you tried reversing the master slave jumpers on the 2 drives? |
