I have posted b4 about how loud my computer was and have decided to get a new CPU Heatsink and fan. My stock one is just too loud.
I have been looking at getting a ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU 120mm on newegg here my PSU runs about 60C average, which seems normal for a prescott, but i mainly need the noise reduction.... what do you think??? |

The 7700 is a good unit but as the poster above said it's pretty bulky and may not fit. If this is the case then look at the 7000 by Zalman.
Look HERE for a good 7700/7000 comparison review where you can see the difference in size and performance. |

OK, i measured the dimensions. It looks like it will fit. I may have to buy a low profile fan for my rear exhaust tho...i am sure they make those, dont they???
anywany, should I use the thermal paste that will come with it or should I buy some arctic Silver seperately? and if so which kind??? I think there was a regular and a ceramic.... thanks, -Roaming_builder |

I wouldn't change your rear fan to one of those - it'll increase noise and decrease the air going out.
AC5, the regular stuff. Or the supplied thermal paste would work. |

I installed that Zalman in a new PC and the temps were better but not what I was hoping for. I realized that the Zalman directs air "onto" the CPU. I turned my rear fan to direct air "into" the case and it made a significant differnce in the CPU temps. I am very pleased with the Zalman unit. Quiet and effecient.

i have that zalman and was really very pleased with it. it's huge as hell, but it looks awful nice sitting in the case
performs really nice too.i liked the look of huge heatsinks so much, i got cooler master's hyper6+ for my new build. dang that thing is BIG. this one is even quieter than the zalman. |

I'll be the Idiot that forgets to put the thermal stuff on =) Will I need to clean the Processor off??? Does anyone know? THe stock heatsink just had a preplaced pad on it, not thermal grease. Anyone know if it will come off clean? |

You'll need to clean the top of the CPU off. Use something (lint free preferbably - I've used a paper towel just fine) and rubbing alcohol to clean it off.

well if anyone cares to know, I just got the Heatsink put on and everything looks good. I had to take it on and off once so I hope the thermal grease will be ok, but the coat was thick enough that it should still spread out evenly.
anyway it went without a hitch, the case is almost completely silent now, cant even hear it as I am typing. Temps have dropped from an average at startup of 65 to an average of 55. I am about to try to put a good load on it and see what happens =) -Roaming_builder I appreciate all of your help. |

This thing is huge, but if anyone is wondering it fits in an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mobo just fine, without obstructing anything at all, alot of ppl I had seen were complaining about being in the way of the RAM slots, but fits perfectly...
