is SATA II HD compatible with MB supporting only SATA I?

My motherboard only support SATA I (1.5G/s), I bought a new SATA HD, I just noticed it's SATA II(3.0G/s), am I in trouble?

i'm no expert but i think it will run at the sata 1 speed.
i've been told that the seagate 7200.9 which is sata 1 is backwards compatible so it works on sata 1 boards.
