Two memory sticks vs. 4 Memory Slots
Hi everybody,
I was wondering if there was a specific way that RAM should be aligned in a motherboard. For example, I have two 512 Mb sticks, and my motherboard has 4 slots, labelled Channel A, and Channel B. Should I stick one in each Channel, or both in Channel A? Thanks for your time! |

Check in your motherboard manual to find in which slots to install memory for Dual Channel operation. In my Gigabyte board, it's slots 1&2, but it may be different for yours.

Thanks Freakitchen... a healthy dose of RTFM was exactly what I needed...
![]() Turns out I can install the memory so that the motherboard accesses it in an "interleaved" mode... in which case, I would have to install one module in each Channel. Thanks! P.S. 999 Posts, Freakitchen! |

![]() Just thought I'd add that if you download a small program called CPU-Z, one of the tabs will tell you if your RAM is running in dual channel mode, which is obviously what you want for best performance. FK |
