Touchpad and PS/2 Mouse
I've got kind of a wierd situation. I've got a Sony Laptop with a touchpad. It's pretty new. Prolly 6 months old. When I first got it I was able to just plug in a PS/2 Mouse and it would work right away. Then one day I decided to load up some drivers for the mouse. Since I wanted to be able to use the scroll feature on the mouse. So I did that and after I rebooted the mouse was going crazy. If I even touched the mouse it'd move like all over the screen and menus, programs and such would all start opening up. So I quickly uninstalled the drivers. But that didnt seem to do any good. I finally figured out that in order to use the PS/2 Mouse i'd have to boot the laptop w/o it plugged in and then once It was all booted I could plug it in and it would work. So I did that for a while but then I wanted to switch operating systems. I formatted that machine and put Win 2k on it. (Formerly had Win98). I figured that before i just didn't remove the drivers properly. Now with a recently formatted machine and new OS it still doesn't work. I still have to boot the machine w/o the PS/2 Mouse unplugged and then plug it in after it's booted. Anyone have any ideas about this? Could it be an IRQ conflict? I'm not really familiar w/ IRQs. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hotplugging a PS/2 device is hazardous to the machine. Check your BIOS settings for a way to disable the touchpad.

Ok, I fixed it. I just had to install the touchpad drivers. I don't know if I'm brave enough to try and install the drivers for my explorer mouse.
