Ram Question

I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RS320 motherboard P4SD-VX.
I currently have x2 256mb ram sticks on my system but i wish to upgrade to 2GB ived been looking around and the thing i dont understand is wether my computer can handle a 1gb stick on 1 slot or the highest it can use is 512mb per slot adding up to 2gigs which is the motherboard limit. Also i know the ones in my system are 64x64 but im wondering if able could i get a 128x64 and still run fine? (i know little about computers and this whole compability to ram and motherboard is confusing) Any ideas?

According to www.crucial.com and their memory finder, the largest size that is supposed to be compatible with that model is 512 MB, so it looks like 1 GB sticks are out of the question.

Crucial's web site is quite useful for finding compatible memory for just about any computer out there.
