New thermal compound?
Hey, anyone hear or know anything about this Coollaboratory Liquid Pro thermal paste?
http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/coolab.html I read the info on svc and it seems pretty interesting. |

If it goes on a liquid, then how does it stay between the heatsink and the CPU when you press the two together? One heck of a lot of surface tension?
Thermal conductivity is what counts, besides diamond, silver has the best thermal conductivity of anything. Thats why I stick to Arctic Silver 5. It contains the highest percentage of silver. It would be interesting to see some independent lab tests rather than manufacturer claims. If this stuff conducts heat 8 times better than Arctic Silver 5 it would be better than diamond at conducting heat. I seriously doubt it is better than diamond. Given this, the manufacturers claim seems bogus. I'm sure it would have been in the science periodicals if someone suddenly invented a substance that conducts heat better than diamond. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_conductivity

I have seen that stuff and there is some other synthetic stuff that is suposed to be awesome....
But I have had the best results for longevity with Nanotherm silver or Shin Etsu (what Dell uses) on my builds...

That story is some compelling proof that this Liquid Metal stuff can be dangerous around aluminum. Also, the reviewer can not even recommend the product due to the potential damage it can do if spilled onto aluminum. I wonder if Coollaboratory would be on to something if they manage to tweak the formula away from gallium?
