Hi Guys...
You know I'm really getting to hate computers.... It seems I just cant do anything without problems...Here is the latest one...I'm trying to install a CD-Rom in my backup computer...It is memorex 52X CD-Rom reader-E-IDE...I installed it onto IDE channel 1 as master(there is nothing else installed on either IDE channels)...It would not showup in either the BIOS or Windows(XP PRO SP2)...SO I took it out and set the jumper to cable select and put it back in..It showed up in the BIOS as the master on IDE 1 but the dam thing wouldnt boot into Windows....Got the screen saying sorry but something screwd up and Windows cant boot... Took it back out and threw it into the corner along with the new system I cant get running...How can I get this CD-Rom to work??????........

First, take a deep breath.
Can you tell us the exact error Windows gave you? Have you tried another IDE cable?

We're going to need a better description of that error message. Was it white letters on a blue background ? If so, could you tell us what the number is after STOP ? (something like 0x000000A1 or 0x1000008E etc. )

Mesaeus..I put the jumper back to master and put it on IDE channel 2..It showed up in the BIOS but would not boot to Windows. The screen that come up is white letters on black backround...We apologise for the inconvince but Windos has failed to start this may be due to a recent hardware or software change..No error #...Lots of other stuff on screen...No #'s.......

Will it boot without any drives connected to the IDE channels? I've run machines like this and they will stop to warn of no drives installed offering the option to enter the bios or press F1 to continue. Press F1 and it should boot to the hard drive. If it won't boot at all, your problem may actually be a defective hard drive. Have you run diagnostics on the hard drive?
